AI Course Creation in your LMS

BuildAI works by creating modules of learning that are easily integrated into your existing Totara workflows. BuildAI creates modules of learning using dynamic prompts to convert existing information from static sources (e.g. documents) into learning content. You can also create content from scratch, using prompts to guide the AI and refine the content to suit your needs.  

In both instances, BuildAI asks the users a series of questions that helps it understand more about the audience, learning goals, and preferred course structure. This helps extract and adapt the content to meet your specific audience goals. 

The AI generates the first version of the content and structure. Authors can then refine tone, wording, media, and layout etc. AI generated content is clearly labelled, supporting Totara’s human-centric approach to AI. 

Modules can be published directly as standalone courses, or multiple modules can be combined into a single Totara course. A module can also be added to multiple courses, as well as into existing Totara courses. 

 Modules can be created as either dynamic or static SCORM files.  

Yes. You can upload existing documents such as a Word file, PDF, Presentation or a text file.  

BuildAI can also extract visual information such as images from these documents. You’ll be prompted to ask if they should be included in your final content.    

BuildAI works seamlessly with Totara’s existing user permissions and rules, so you have complete control over who can create, or publish, content.  

This offers a practical solution to a common use case – you may want your non-L&D course creators (your subject-matter experts) to draft content that shares their expertise, but have the content reviewed by your L&D team before it can be published. 

Yes, BuildAI was designed with compliance training in mind, and is being used in highly-regulated sectors. Turning essential business, organisational or regulatory knowledge from policies, documents, training manuals and more into trackable, reportable training supports an essential and common compliance need. 

The human verification and overview throughout the process provides oversight to ensure content accuracy and suitability before content is published. 

Yes, BuildAI is designed to work for global scale and audiences. 

BuildAI currently supports 38 languages for both content creation and narration. All translated text (including narration) can be edited to ensure accuracy and to meet localised needs.  

You can also choose to set dynamic translation, which recognises the user’s default browser language settings and will translate content automatically when viewed (if this option is selected during creation). 

BuildAI is not a default option; it’s been designed as a cost-effective AI content authoring tool that lets you roll-out learning content creation in a controlled way, across your organisation at a very low annual per-author cost.

No, the content from BuildAI is not used to train the underlying AI engine. This applies to both any documents uploaded, and the resulting content created using BuildAI.  

All content that you create using BuildAI remains your own property.
