The Challenge

Medtronic faced two key challenges. Migrate unstable LMS environment from public Cloud to Medtronic based private AWS cloud. Achieving this goal greatly helped to establish trustworhty and performance efficient LMS Totara platform. Second goal was to migrate Totara platform to version 18, enhance functionality, adapt modern LMS driven processes like on boarding or sales training. Finally make Medtronic Academy adaptable for different business types within the company and offer training for different divisions.

The Solution

Along with platform migration and Totara upgrade company decided to redesign or modernize Medtronic Academy 2.0 experience. Medtronic Academy runs entrirely on Totara.

Main focus areas were:

• simplifying the admin experience for beginner admins
• UI update to meet end users and Medtronic business specific requirements
• vastly improve on Search catalog – both UI and data accuracy
• Users surveys addition to gather platfrom feedback
• Improve microsite/tenant catalog capabilities
• Enable effective tool for Sales Teams – First line managers, sales professionals, remote sellers and marketeres
• implement global notfications / reminders.
• Integrate with external enterprise applications like SalesForce and Workday.

The Result

• Average training delivery – 20% faster adoption
• Increase of users YoY from 450K to 600K learners
• Significant savings on infrastructure costs due to move to private cloud and Totara scalability – aprox. 300K $ annual savings.
