Dairygold, one of Ireland’s leading dairy cooperatives, is committed to excellence — not only in the quality of its products but also in the development and compliance of its workforce.
With a large, distributed employee base across multiple facilities, Dairygold needed a modern learning platform that could centralise training, ensure compliance, and empower staff with accessible, relevant learning opportunities.

The Challenge
Before partnering with Enovation, Dairygold faced several challenges:
- Managing compliance training across a diverse workforce was time-consuming and fragmented.
- HR and learning systems operated in silos, making it difficult to generate unified compliance reports.
- Employees lacked an intuitive, personalised learning experience that encouraged engagement and growth.
Dairygold required a solution that could seamlessly integrate with its existing HR systems, support Single Sign-On (SSO), and provide a robust compliance framework to ensure every employee was up to date with essential training.
The Solution
Enovation partnered with Dairygold to implement Totara Learn, a powerful and flexible learning management system tailored for compliance-driven organisations.

Totara proved to be the ideal solution, offering:
Comprehensive compliance management
Dairygold gained full control over the learner experience, using Totara’s powerful rule engine to define who needs to complete what training — and by when.
Seamless integration
The platform integrated smoothly with Dairygold’s existing HR Information System (HRIS) and SSO identity provider, ensuring a unified and secure user experience.
Expanded learning opportunities
Through Totara’s integration with LinkedIn Learning, Dairygold provided its workforce with an extensive catalogue of professional development and skills training courses — all searchable and accessible through a single learning portal.
Data-driven insights
Leveraging Enovation’s database replication service, learning data from Totara now feeds into Dairygold’s HR data lake. This integration enables Power BI dashboards for senior leadership, providing rich insights into compliance and learning performance across the organisation.
The Results
The implementation of Totara has delivered measurable improvements across compliance, learning engagement, reporting, and workforce development.
Key outcomes include:
- Instructor-led training attendance increased by 105%, enabled through seminar direct enrolment and giving learners the flexibility to enrol, cancel and manage their own learning.
- By centralising all instructor-led training within Totara, Dairygold has been able to use learning data to secure Enterprise Ireland funding, helping cover the organisation’s learning and development budget.
- With all employees active on Totara, Dairygold has successfully delivered organisation-wide campaigns covering Anti-Fraud, Anti-Corruption, and Dignity & Respect at Work, achieving 100% completion rates.
- A new onboarding programme, designed to address early employee turnover within the retail business and fully coordinated through Totara, has improved new starter retention by approximately 20%.
- Through standard system roles such as Editing Trainer and Course Creator, Dairygold has democratised learning across the organisation. Internal subject matter experts now create their own learning content using tools such as Easygenerator, publish SCORM content in Totara, and use dynamic audiences to target learning to the right employees.
Together, these outcomes have enabled Dairygold to centralise compliance, improve reporting, expand employee-generated learning, and build a more engaging and scalable learning ecosystem.
“Enovation’s support in implementing, troubleshooting and developing our Totara Learning Management System has been a consistently good experience. Be it through the helpdesk engagements, our monthly calls, development work or as a sounding board for new projects and focus areas, Enovation have always provided trusted timely advice, guidance, and solutions as to how we can best achieve our learning goals.”
