Global electrical manufacturer uses Totara to create a cost-saving, on-brand learning platform

Bticino is an Italian electrical component manufacturer with plants and production facilities in more than 180 countries around the world. It has been a part of the Legrand Group since 1989. Bticino Mexico has over 600 employees in Mexico and more than 33,000 employees around the world.

The Challenge

Bticino Mexico needed a solution ensure that its training and information was available 24/7/365 to all of its employees, regardless of location. It needed an LMS to maintain prestige and quality of training, deliver great functionality and ensure confidence, with a focus on product knowledge and management training.

“Totara is different because it is an open source LMS built for enterprises. Aura Interactiva with Totara Learn gives the coverage, stability for our courses and cost reduction.” – Gerardo Amores, Bticino University Leader

They needed to train a large number of employees quickly, consistently, and profitably:

  • Retail companies have always needed to schedule a sizeable batch of customers and sales and channel partners to demonstrate new products.
  • In 2014, BTICINO Mexico decided to experiment with mobile training courses. The goal was to deliver just in time product training to geographically dispersed audiences.
The Solutio

Aura Interactiva, Totara Partner, worked with Bticino to develop a customised Totara Lear solution in under a month. The speed of development was helped by Bticino’s existing familiarity with learning management systems. The look and feel was customised to ensure it reflected the Bticino look and feel.Aura Interactiva also created a set of custom reports to ensure Bticino could access the reporting data they needed to have confidence in course completion and compliance.  As well as this, Bticino used Aura’s eLearning authoring tool to implement a Mobile Learning Strategy. Since the training was for mobile users, the eLearning courses were chunked into short, manageable topics, distilled down to the most important facts. They used a responsive design approach leveraging SHIFT’s HTML5 development platform. This meant that the same course could be viewed on any device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop).

The Results

Moving to Totara Learn has reduced training costs and improved access and convenience for Bticino and its employees, as well as providing an on-brand experience and flexible training model.

“With these tools in place, our sales and channel partners hear about the products offered, as well as their benefits and features in a timely manner. They have 24/7/365 access to product information on the go, helping them stay ahead of the game and get closer to the customer (they can show customers important product information at the point of need).” – Gerardo Amores Adame, eLearning Leader at BTICINO Mexico
