MedHealth’s enrolments increase by 31% after launch of new learning management and talent development platform

MedHealth supports thousands of people each year to achieve better work and health outcomes. We do this through our unique combination of strengths, capabilities and resources, which span healthcare management, medical opinion, advisory, clinical, employment, health and business technology, rehabilitation and return to work services.

MedHealth supports around 435,000 people from our more than 350 locations around Australia or via digital health.

The Challenge

MedHealth has experienced significant growth, with multiple systems and processes in place supporting our people. Following a review to consolidate common points of activity to a more standard and structured way across the business to improve people management processes, talent management and retention it was found that the existing Learning Management System was not optimal for being able to support future growth as well as support the complexity of our business.

The core business case requires alignment of core learning management and talent development processes across the business and ensure that team members experience is consistent across the entire organisation:

  • A system that supports the required features and functions for our existing and growing company requirements
  • Develop our people and engage with them as an entire organisation, not just one part of our business
  • Help our managers engage with individuals and teams to develop, train, retain, and empower them.

The Solution

The Totara Learn learning management and talent development platform deployment design satisfies key criteria for technical flexibility and cater for a broad range of user experience:

  • A platform for the delivery of courses and resources to support annual accreditation
  • Secure access dependent on user role
  • Two-way integration with key systems
  • Automated learner registration from upstream systems
  • Automatic user duplicate checking using Androgogic‘s Androsync integrations module
  • Consolidated course materials and information for easy access by users
  • Automatic generation of mandatory and recommended courses for users
  • Automated management of certifications (rollover courses’) including reporting and notifications
  • Personalised dashboards to track learning progress.

The platform architecture addresses the user experience needs of each audience:

  • Staff
  • Trainees
  • Contract staff and students

Personalised ‘dashboards’ for each audience allow different collections of resources and other collateral to be presented according to need. Totara Learn and the Androgogic Totara Edition suite of products provide all the features required to support the objectives.

Results

A key result is a flexible, scalable and efficient architecture for Medhealth to leverage the sophisticated Totara Learning Platform developed by key Educational Technology Partner, Androgogic to achieve and exceed the project goals:

  • Consolidation of course materials and information (for online and face-to-face courses) into one place for easy access by users
  • Automatic generation of mandatory and recommended courses for users using dynamic audiences which allow assignment of courses against user metadata such as e.g. user role, pre-set competency standards, etc
  • Automated management of certifications (rollover courses) including reporting and notifications
  • Moved our Health and wellbeing programs to a blended format which are a major focus as we support our people to thrive at work, including:
      • Work from home and flexibility policies and practices, including exercise classes, ergonomic sessions and team building
      • The Resilience Project on-demand webinars
      • A series of webinars touching on everything from floral design, to Zumba, project management skills, French cooking, comedians and managing finances
      • Sessions on preventing burnout, time management and building growth mindset in yourself and your children
      • Exercise tips from our allied health professionals
      • Wellbeing focused newsletters

Just some of the core learning streams to support continuous professional development are: Mental Health of Clients, Working with Clients, Through the Eyes of Clinicians and Proven Practices.

Our programs support a collaborative, peer focussed educational framework, helping team members drive their own learning journey.

Each program offers ways for team members to share their learning experiences, connect with others across the vast MedHealth network while continually enhancing individual service excellence.

“Moving our programs online has inspired our trainers to review the subject matter content, and develop the skills to use platform tools to increase learning interactivity and improve knowledge retention and staff engagement. Our learners have also become quickly accustomed to the platform and with minimal assistance find it obvious and intuitive to use. We have seen the number of enrolments in MedHealth Academy programs increase by 31% soon after launch. With learn@MedHealth, we have implemented a best practice learning management system that empowers team members to own their learning journey.”
